The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Gender and Health beginning August 22, 2022. We seek a dynamic teacher and researcher whose specialization includes one or more of the following: gender and health advocacy and education; reproductive health and rights; gender-based violence and public health; health disparities and healthcare access in marginalized communities; social inequities of health as based in gender, sexuality, race, class and location; and/or health access and rights within the LGBTQ+ community. We especially welcome candidates whose work focuses on the intersectional health issues faced by African-American, Latina, and/or Native American/Indigenous women.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. preferably in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies or in a related interdisciplinary field and have a background in interdisciplinary social sciences or the medical humanities. Teaching responsibilities include an introductory course, Women’s Bodies, Women’s Health, as well as additional courses on gender and health at the graduate and undergraduate level. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to teach courses in women’s, gender and sexuality studies. The department values the ability to mentor students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Teaching load includes two classes per term and all faculty are expected to maintain a robust research agenda.
In addition to a CV, cover letter, and 3 letters of recommendation, candidates must submit a statement of research interests and teaching portfolio that includes sample syllabi, a statement of teaching philosophy that addresses teaching and mentoring a diverse student body, and teaching evaluations if available. Review of applications will begin November 15, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Global Gender and Sexuality Studies (GGSs) is the interdisciplinary home for research and teaching on feminism, women, gender, and sexuality at UB. Originally formed in 1972, we attract students locally, nationally and internationally and offer BA, MA and PhD degrees.
