Job Description
The ODU Libraries Head of Systems Development is responsible for oversight and management of the key information systems that support Libraries’ functions and services. This position oversees the work of the Systems Administrator and the Brickell Library Systems Librarian to coordinate enterprise solutions including the integrated library system and discovery layer (Clarivate Alma Primo VE, OCLC Worldshare Management System), institutional repository (Digital Commons), link resolver (EZ Proxy), interlibrary loan (ILLiad), Special Collections and University Archives (Preservica), and Springshare product suite.
This position acts as primary administrator of the Libraries’ website and intranet, in collaboration with the Web Advisory Team and University Communications, and oversees the management of the Brickell Medical Sciences Library testing lab. This position identifies, develops and manages adoption of technology infrastructure necessary to meet current and future needs of faculty, students, and Libraries personnel.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications
American Library Association accredited MLS or MLIS degree, or international equivalent.
Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Considerable knowledge and understanding of key issues and trends in digital initiatives and information technology and academic libraries
- Considerable knowledge of library discovery services that support the operations and strategic initiatives of academic libraries
- Some knowledge of web programming languages (e.g.: Javascript, HTML and CSS)
- Some knowledge of web accessibility standards
- Some knowledge of library application development processes, including requirements gathering, quality assurance, usability testing, user experience, and release management
- Basic expertise in promoting and providing training on library systems
- Basic expertise in project management and coordinating teams to implement, enhance, and support library systems
- Basic familiarity with Ivanti Portal Manager
- Considerable interpersonal, analytical, organizational, communication, and project management skills
- Considerable ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and to build and maintain relationships in a diverse, proactive, and team-oriented environment
- Considerable, progressively responsible experience with information technology
- Considerable commitment to user-centered services and service excellence to diverse constituencies
- Considerable ability to work both as a team member and independently
- Some experience in managing enterprise library systems such as Alma Primo VE, OCLC WMS, ILLiad, Preservica, and EZ Proxy.
- Some experience with project management
- Some experience in building and sustaining effective interpersonal relations with library staff, campus administrators, faculty, and students
- Basic experience with a web Content Management System (CMS)
- Some experience working in an academic or public library
Preferred Qualifications
- Some knowledge of information technology support ticketing systems and workflows
- Some knowledge of user authentication/authorization protocols
- Some demonstrated proficiency in programming or scripting languages, relational database management, systems analysis, and/or using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
- Some administrative and management experience in an academic or other library of comparable size
- Some experience managing technologies such as open source systems, electronic resources, server infrastructure, network infrastructure, or digital collections
- Advanced degree or coursework work in a relevant subject area such as computer science
- Some knowledge of standards and best practices for web accessibility and ADA compliance
- Some familiarity with version control systems such as Git
- Graduate or undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field.
