Two Tenure Track Job Openings in Psychology at the University of Oklahoma

Assistant Professor of Psychology – Quantitative Psychology with Health Outcomes

Assistant Professor of Psychology – I/O Psychology - Technology in the Workplace

University of Oklahoma Norman Campus: College of Arts and Sciences: Psychology

Open Date: October 10, 2024

Description and Qualifications: As part of a multi-year strategic hiring and growth initiative in Applied Psychological Science, the Department of Psychology at The University of Oklahoma is seeking applications for two tenure-track faculty openings at the rank of Assistant Professor, one in Quantitative Psychology with a focus on Health Outcomes, and one in Industrial Organizational Psychology with a focus on Technology in the Workplace. These positions align with the strategic plans in Psychology and in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships (https://www.ou.edu/research-norman).

The Psychology department offers the PhD in Cognitive, Industrial/Organizational, Applied Social and Developmental, and Quantitative Psychology (Norman campus), and an MA in Organizational Dynamics (Tulsa campus). Additionally, some faculty members also work in one or more integrative, crosscutting specialties: neuroscience, personality/individual differences and a multidisciplinary degree program in cellular and behavioral neurobiology.

For the Quantitative Psychology position, the successful candidate will have strong potential for research excellence focused broadly on cutting-edge data analytics or computational modeling, such as machine learning techniques in social and behavioral science, with an emphasis on health outcomes. We are particularly interested in scholars pursuing research in areas that would complement and extend existing quantitative faculty expertise in psychometrics, dynamical systems, Bayesian statistics, longitudinal modeling, item response theory, and latent variable modeling. We would also welcome new complementary expertise in machine learning and computational modeling. Given the interdisciplinarity of current quantitative faculty, candidates demonstrating multidisciplinary collaboration are preferred. We especially encourage applications from scholars committed to research involving a substantive focus on health and well-being. We expect the successful candidate to have demonstrated potential for securing external grants to support their program of research. To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology or a closely related field earned by the start of the appointment (mid-August, 2025).

For the Industrial-Organizational psychology position, specialization is open. However, we have two priority emphases. First, we are particularly interested in candidates whose research and teaching explore and/or address critical issues, opportunities and challenges associated with technology and innovation in the workplace. Second, we also have a special interest in candidates whose research and teaching explore and/or address critical issues in occupational health psychology. Both priority emphases are broadly construed. Candidates should have evidence of high-quality scholarship in I/O Psychology through published research and should demonstrate willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research and potential to pursue external funding opportunities in areas related to technological innovations in the workplace or occupational health psychology. To be considered for this position, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Psychology or Organizational Behavior by the start of the appointment (mid-August, 2025), with broad expertise in I/O Psychology, Organizational Behavior, or a related discipline.

Candidates for these positions must also have the potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentorship and be prepared to expand course offerings in their area of specialization. The assigned teaching load will be two courses per semester.
