POSITION DESCRIPTION
Assistant Clinical Professor of Social Work

The University of Alabama School of Social Work invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Clinical Professor to begin August 2020. Primary responsibilities will include: (1) Developing and teaching online courses for our primarily distance Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program; (2) advising DSW program students (with emphasis on advising students on their comprehensive paper and capstone projects); (3) preparing and presenting content at the on-campus DSW residencies that take place each June; and (4) teaching in our BSW, MSW, and/or PhD programs, as needed. Areas of social work practice expertise are open, but applicants with experience in advanced and innovative clinical techniques and/or human service administration/management will be given preference. Successful candidates must: have an MSW degree from an accredited institution with at least three years of post-MSW social work experience, and a DSW degree or a PhD in social work/social welfare/social policy. Preference will be given to candidates who: (1) have teaching experience, especially online education; (2) knowledge of social work evaluation methodologies and experience in evaluating practice; (3) have a license (licensure will be required for those who teach clinical courses); and (4) have post-DSW/PhD social work practice (clinical/administrative) or teaching experience.

The University of Alabama’s School of Social Work, established in 1965, has an accomplished faculty of 23 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, 13 full-time teaching faculty members, and over 30 dedicated professional and support staff members. We have a vibrant student body with a combined enrollment of over 600 students across our BSW, MSW, DSW, and PhD programs.
