The New School’s Bachelor’s Program for Adults and Transfer Students (BPATS) invites applications for a Renewable-term Assistant or Associate Professor in the Food Studies program beginning on July 1, 2022.
We are seeking an outstanding faculty member with a Ph.D./terminal degree in Food Studies or other discipline/interdisciplinary field with a focus on food studies. In particular, we invite faculty whose research engages questions linked to contemporary food systems that may include issues of race, gender, indigeneity, politics, globalization, technology, supply chain, consumers, design, management, environmental issues, and/or media studies. The successful candidate will contribute to the curriculum and programming in support of the BA/BS/AAS degrees in Food Studies and to graduate programs across the university as they relate to food studies.
The teaching course load is five courses per year or its equivalent. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence as a teacher with a minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience. The successful candidate is also expected to be active in scholarship, professional, and/or creative practice appropriate to their appointed rank and areas of expertise. The faculty member will also participate in industry engagement, the organization of public events and conferences that maintain the high profile and visibility of the Food Studies Program.

We are seeking applicants with an outstanding record of scholarly research and/or creative practice, publications, and contributions to discussions in the field of food studies.
A Ph.D./terminal degree in Food Studies, or in other disciplines with a focus on food studies.
A substantial record of scholarly/creative work and/or publications.
Three or more years of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.
Experience with curriculum development and oversight.
Experience mentoring students.
Capacity to work well with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and levels of professional experience.
Commitment to collaborating across the University and with external partners.
Demonstrate potential for a leadership role in the Food Studies program.
