The School of Social Work at Simmons University offers a robust set of programs both on-line and at our Boston-based campus at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The School's more than 40 full-time and nearly 300 part-time faculty serve close to 2000 social work students on a year-round basis. The School offers a campus-based and online BSW program, a campus-based and online MSW program, a campus-based Ph.D. program, and an online DSW program. The School of Social Work is the oldest in the nation and specializes in clinical social work. It prepares culturally responsive social work practitioners, leaders and scholars to work with individuals, families, and communities and promotes social justice through teaching, research and service. We have adopted a framework called DEIPAR (diversity, equity, inclusion, intersectionality, power, and anti-racism) to intentionally drive our content, pedagogy, and learning environment in support of social justice. We believe in educational innovation and use technology, simulation, interprofessional education, and high-impact, learner-centered teaching practices to facilitate student learning. We believe in providing students with the opportunity to practice social work skills and to grow through fieldwork, projects, research, and community-based learning.

The School of Social Work is seeking an experienced leader with a passion for all levels of social work education, on-campus and online. This new leader will represent the School of Social Work, foster our continued growth and innovation, and help shape the future of this dynamic institution.

Administrative Experience:
  • Record of employing leadership skills to facilitate positive outcomes including strategic decision-making, operations, organizational and communication skills, preferably in an academic institution.

Academic Experience:
  • Ph.D. in Social Work, or a combination of Ph.D. in a related field and a CSWE-accredited MSW/MSSW
  • A minimum of five years post-Ph.D. experience as an educator in a social work program and/or related field
  • One year of experience teaching online is preferred
  • Meet qualifications for tenure and Associate/Professor rank at Simmons School of Social Work; qualifications for Professor rank preferred
  • Active scholarly portfolio and history of active scholarship
  • Experience applying for, acquiring, and managing external funding

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategy-driven management
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships with strategic partners, including partners in providing online education
  • Shape and manage the complex portfolio of academic programs in the SSW
  • Promote, develop and enhance the School's human capital through engagement, mentorship, and management of faculty and staff
  • Steward the School's resources with strong fiscal management and by acquiring new funds through fundraising, research, and revenue-generation
  • Amplify the School's social justice and DEI efforts, including strengthening the integration of the DEIPAR framework
  • Partner with the Dean of the College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice and serve as the central link between faculty members and the Dean, the Provost, and other officers of the University administration
  • Represent the School in University settings and campus-wide initiatives, working collaboratively with other Directors and Deans to support the Simmons mission
  • Oversee accreditation initiatives
  • Communicate about and promote the School's mission, programs, and people
  • Represent the School in admissions/recruitment initiatives, alumni relations, and advancement
  • Champion the School's efforts and represent the School's interests with external constituents and partners
  • Lead the School of Social Work on a year-round basis, for programs across our academic calendar.
