Summary:

UVU has the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, with approximately 40,000+ students. It is one of a growing number of institutions in the nation offering an integrated dual-mission model that combines the rigor and richness of a first-rate teaching university with the openness and vocational programs of a community college.

Under the direction of the Department Chair and Dean of the College of Health and Public Service this individual shall: instruct students enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program via in-class, online and hybrid methods of delivery; administer Student Learning Outcome (SLO) examinations at the beginning and end of each semester; maintain an active research and scholarship agenda; accept assignments and serve on department, college, and university committees; attend faculty meetings and other meetings as assigned; perform other appropriate university and professional service; support the department's goals and work collaboratively with colleagues in the program, department, school, and across the university.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a PhD, JD, EdD in Criminal Justice or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced understanding of the United States Criminal Justice system and various components.
  • Experience in university-level teaching relating to criminal justice.
  • Experience in online teaching modality.
  • Knowledge of and consistent use of engaged teaching techniques.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of teaching issues, challenges, and completion strategies.
  • Knowledge of evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation.
  • Skill in using current technology.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • 2-3 years teaching experience.
  • Evidence of effective and inclusive college-level teaching.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with research in and/or experience in race relations and diverse/non-traditional populations in an urban environment.


Physical Requirements:

Physical requirements consistent with a classroom and office setting. Must be able to deliver instruction to students for multiple hours at a time.
