Chan School of Public Health Professor S.V. Subramanian and Korea University Assistant Professor Rockli Kim. The overarching goal of this project is to improve precision public policy, public financing, and governance in India related to indicators of population health and development. Specifically, the project aims to achieve this goal by: 1) Data collation and analytics; 2) The development of web-based intelligent public data and analytics platform; and 3) Knowledge translation and dissemination.

The desired candidate will have a doctorate in data science, public health, or related fields, and will have extensive experience with manuscript writing and data analysis using large population-based data sets. Experience of working with Indian data sets (e.g. Census, National Family Health Surveys) is required. The candidate must have advanced skills in coding, GIS, and statistical modeling, including analyzing correlated data (eg, multilevel, spatial). Knowledge of geospatial analysis and machine learning is desirable.

Primary responsibilities: The position will be primarily responsible for advancing scientific investigations on issues related to population health, nutrition and development in India. Duties include conceptualizing and designing novel scientific research ideas; performing literature review; conducting data analysis using the constructed database and possibly linking to an external data source; producing tables, charts, graphs for data summary; providing clear analytic interpretations; writing manuscripts as first author; and contributing to grant proposals if needed. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will work closely with the PIs and the entire research team.

Required qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in statistics, data science, computer science, public health, social sciences or related field with strong focus on quantitative methods.
  • At least 2 years of work experience with data analysis and scientific writing.
  • Previous experience conducting research pertaining to India is required.
  • High level of statistical programming in large data sets is required.
  • Advanced expertise in statistical regression modeling, including analysis of correlated data (eg., multilevel, spatial), and GIS is required. Basic understanding of geospatial analysis and machine learning is desirable.
  • Proficiency in STATA, SAS, R or other statistical analysis programs.
  • Analytic decision-making and collaborative data analysis.
  • Excellence in writing and ability to serve as first author on academic paper.
  • Some project management experience.
