Westmont College invites applications from innovative and collaborative candidates for the position of assistant director of the Westmont in San Francisco Program.  The Westmont in San Francisco program is located in a historic home in the Pacific Heights neighborhood in the heart of the city and is one of longest-running off-campus programs at the college.  It includes semester-long and summer programs in which students live in community, participate in intensive internships, and take classes which are all embedded in the vibrant context of the city.

The Assistant Director’s responsibilities will include teaching classes (approximately 16-18 units a year), supervising internships with program partners, developing curriculum, and mentoring students.  They will also give leadership to creating and implementing a successful marketing, recruitment, and admissions strategy that will bring in approximately 20 students per term.  The role is a non-tenure-track faculty position.

While it will be located in San Francisco, travel to the main campus in Santa Barbara and to other partner institutions across the country will be required.  A candidate based in Santa Barbara with an ability to travel extensively to San Francisco will also be considered.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D., Master’s degree, or other advanced degree that would support the curricular offerings of the program. We are flexible in specialization but particular areas of interest include business, technology, sociology, environmental studies, and intercultural studies.  Other specializations will also be considered.

To apply, please use this link.  In your cover letter, please include examples of the classes you would be excited to teach.  Questions about the position can be directed to Dr. Eileen McMahon McQuade, Associate Dean of the Faculty at mcquade@westmont.edu.  Review of applications will begin November 1st, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

  • Westmont is an EEO employer, seeking to be diverse in people and programs consistent with its mission. The college seeks to enrich its educational experience and its culture through the diversity of its faculty, administration, and staff. Women, candidates from historically underrepresented groups, and international scholars are especially encouraged to apply.
