The Department of Library and Information Science at The Catholic University of America seeks to fill four tenure track positions for the Masters of Information Systems and Masters in Library and Information Science to begin in August 2024.

The Department of Library and Information Science strives to transform the role of cultural heritage institutions and information professionals for the betterment of human society. Our M.S.L.I.S. program has been continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1946. Located and serving the nation’s capital for over 100 years, we have unmatched professional connections with the riches of institutions such as the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, and many other federal and nonprofit organizations.

Areas and Job Descriptions

  • School Library Media: We seek applicants who specialize in school librarianship and can advise and mentor students, particularly for those who are seeking SLM licenses.
  • Cultural Heritage and Information Management: We seek applicants who specialize in areas of cultural heritage, archives, museum studies, digital humanities, digital curation, etc. and have expertise to conduct research and teach graduate courses effectively in all delivery modes.
  • HCI and UX: We seek applicants who specialize in areas of human-computer interaction (HCI), user-experience (UX) research, human-information interaction, human factors, user interface design, information visualization, etc. and have expertise to conduct research and teach graduate courses effectively in all delivery modes.
  • Data Analytics: We seek applicants who specialize in areas of artificial intelligence, data analytics, data mining and processing, data visualization, AI and data ethics, etc. and have expertise to conduct research and teach graduate courses effectively in all delivery modes.

Responsibilities

Full-time professor committed to teaching, research and service:

  • Teach necessary courses for the Department following the University’s policy based on the rank and responsibilities
  • Have an active research agenda
  • Contribute to course and curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches.
  • Serve on departmental committees such as comprehensive exams, colloquium, etc.
  • Advise and mentor graduate students.

Experience/Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills

  • Experience in the theory and practice of teaching.
  • Effective graduate level teaching and the ability to adapt pedagogy to diverse methodologies.
  • D. in information science, library and information science or closely related discipline.
