Position Category: Faculty - Non Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks a Lecturer - Marriage & Family Therapy (MFT). This position will have a 5/5 teaching load of MFT graduate courses, and the possibility of other courses as the department requires. Teaching load may include hybrid and/or distance education sections. Creates a student-oriented approach to academics. Plans, develops, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Supervises individuals and groups in classrooms and laboratories. Evaluates instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests. Assists in recruitment, advisement, and placement of students. Recommends students for advancement and graduation. Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up. Establishes and maintains office hours and advises students as needed. Assists advisor, program director, department chairperson, faculty, and department staff in maintaining an effective program, serves on committees, and attends meetings as required.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy or a doctorate from an accredited institution in a related discipline, AND an earned LMFT from an accredited MFT program with a minimum of two years post masters clinical experience, AND experience in teaching a at a post-secondary education institution as indicated on the curriculum vitae.
Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Ability to teach two of the following: Lifespan Development, Early Development, Adult Development, Ethics, Systemic Assessment and Diagnosis, Research Methods, Couple, Group, Individual, or Family Therapy. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content in marriage & family therapy graduate courses and other family sciences courses at the discretion of the department.
  • In depth knowledge of marriage and family therapy.
  • Knowledge of COAMFTE accreditation and AAMFT clinical practice.
  • AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor candidate.
  • Knowledge of the principles and methodology of teaching techniques.
  • Knowledge of on-line and hybrid course design and instruction.
  • Knowledge of Canvas or similar learning management systems.
  • Skills in teaching as demonstrated through effective instructional strategies and classroom techniques.
  • Skills in maintaining a positive and engaging classroom environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent community relations skills.
  • Skilled in time management and organization.
  • Able to maintain scholastic currency, preferably evidenced by publications presentations and the promise of future scholarly productivity.
  • Ability to instruct and motivate students, manage classroom procedures, and evaluate student learning.
  • Ability to apply research principles while engaging students.
  • Ability to develop or adapt new course curriculum.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as a faculty member or administrator in a marriage and family therapy program. Experience teaching or learning in an online environment.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing, sitting, and walking; continuous ability to see, hear, and speak; Able to lift up to 10 pounds; frequent fine hand manipulation as associated with the use of a computer.
