Posting Detail Information
Position Summary
The
Department of Psychology at the University at Buffalo (UB). The State University of New York, is recruiting for a
SUNY Empire Innovation faculty hire at the rank of
Professor or Associate Professor. The hire will be focused on the study of human cognition and behavior to address gaps in learning, development, or education using AI.
We seek applicants whose work combines behavioral development (e.g., early cognition, memory and attention, social and emotional development, learning, school readiness, and educational achievement) and AI models of detection and intervention (e.g., machine learning, large language models, neural networks). To offer a few examples, this hire could focus on supporting developmentally diverse learners (e.g., those with learning disabilities or
ADHD) to promote longer-term, positive behavioral health outcomes. Similarly, they could also study normative learning, socio-emotional, and cognitive processes in typically developing youth, which may identify avenues to accommodate diverse developmental processes.
The specific area within Psychology is open, though given the focus, the strongest fit is likely to be those with training and background in cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, and/or learning.
Our new colleague will become a part of considerable momentum at UB in several critical areas. First among these is
New York States Empire AI investment, which seeks to secure New Yorks place at the forefront of AI research. We anticipate our new colleague will engage with
UBs Institute for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (IAD), which brings together educators, researchers, students, and external partners from across UB and beyond to advance the promise of machine intelligence. This search also will complement a recent cross-disciplinary cluster hire in UBs Learning Sciences, focused on the application of current technologies to understand and improve on learning outcomes. This interdisciplinary group of scholars aims to generate knowledge and ideas that can lead to improvements in learning and learning environments for education across the lifespan, through the application and development of cutting-edge technologies and pedagogies.
This search is designed to add to departmental and university-wide strength in developmental science. Faculty within the department and across the university meet regularly to support grant and research projects within developmental science.
