West Virginia University Institute of Technology (WVU Tech), a regional divisional four-year campus of West Virginia University (WVU) located in Southern West Virginia (Beckley), is currently inviting applications and nominations for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor.

The Department of Social Science/Public Administration within the College of Business, Humanities and Social Sciences, seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice. The position is 9 months and benefits-eligible. The department offers four degree programs: BS degree in Criminal Justice, BS degree in Forensic Investigation, BS degree in Health Services Administration, and BS degree in Public Service Administration.

We are seeking an outstanding teacher to complement the faculty in the Department of Social Sciences. Primary responsibilities include teaching twelve undergraduate hours per semester of criminal justice courses and related core-courses, curriculum assessment, and similar activities. Examples of course responsibilities may include juvenile justice, probation/parole, corrections, research methods, and social science courses related to criminal justice. Additional responsibilities include student advising and retention.

All college faculty are expected to demonstrate value to the profession and university through creative activity and scholarship. The successful candidate will join a department with a student-centered philosophy and one that works closely with students. The department seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the campus and university. Participation in faculty service activities, including committee work, is expected. Additional responsibilities will be assigned according to the needs of the department. Date of Appointment: August 2018

Qualifications:

A doctorate in criminal justice or closely related discipline is required. ABD may be considered; however, Ph.D. must be completed by December 2018 for renewal of appointment. A J.D. degree alone is not sufficient. Experience teaching at the college level and an ability to effectively teach criminal justice and general education courses is required. Training in the U.S. criminal justice system is a must. Scholarly promise is essential. Demonstrated ability to mentor students is also required.
