Rhode Island School of Design (or "RIZ-dee" for the acronym RISD) Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a range of mental health services to address the unique needs of art and design students with the goal of improving their emotional, interpersonal, and academic functioning. CAPS offers clinical services such as initial assessment, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and referral along with training, outreach, and consultation to the RISD community.
The Staff Psychologist will serve as a clinical staff member of CAPS, providing psychological and counseling services of a preventative and developmental nature to a diverse population of students in individual and group formats. We are looking for a flexible, creative thinker who is calm under pressure to join our well-utilized, fast paced counseling service. The Staff Psychologist will deliver clinical, educational, outreach, and consultation services relevant to the needs of our diverse RISD community.
Key responsibilities include:
- Crisis intervention; serving in an on-call rotation; and assessing risk of violence toward self and others.
- Supervise and instruct all levels of clinical trainees.
- Provide consultation to parents, administrators, faculty, and staff.
- May help create and deliver outreach programming to students, student groups, administrators, faculty, and staff.
It’s important that the Psychologist has experience with cultural concerns, identity development, and acute mental health issues relevant to college students.
