Job description

The Département de géographie invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Human Geography with specialization in Regional Geography of East Asia and/or Southeast Asia. Research interests may include, but are not limited to, the impacts of globalization on social and economic development, geopolitical and religious conflicts, power conflicts, society-environment relations, socio-economic impacts of climate change as well as problems related to land urbanization. A specialization in Geography of Japan is an asset.

The appointed candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level in relation to the Asian Studies Programs of the Centre d’études de l’Asie de l’Est (CETASE) of the Université de Montréal and graduate studies in geography, supervise graduate students, engage in ongoing research and publication, and contribute to the academic life and reputation of the University.


  • Ph.D. in Geography or in a related discipline
  • Publications in internationally recognized reviews
  • University teaching experience
  • Ability and interest to work in a team
  • Proficiency in the French language*
