What will I be doing?

The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of International Affairs (IA), Office of Multilateral Climate and Clean Energy Engagement seeks motivated candidates to take on today’s pressing climate challenges through a fellowship with DOE-STP.

This fellowship will support the approximately 18 international clean energy initiatives and campaigns in which the United States participates within the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), a multilateral organization with 29 member countries working to rapidly increase the deployment of clean energy technologies. These initiatives and campaigns cover technology areas such as hydrogen, biofuels, and civil nuclear; global deployment issues such as solar and battery supply chains; and cross-cutting just transition and gender equity issues. As an ORISE participant, you will gain insight into the federal government’s role within international forums such as the CEM as well as coordination of work within and between federal government agencies and DOE’s system of national laboratories.

A fellowship in IA will give you the opportunity to apply scientific, technical, and policy knowledge to the development and implementation of international climate and clean energy solutions as well as to continue your education and involvement in areas that support the DOE mission.

Successful fellows come from a wide range of backgrounds, but education and/or experience in the following subject areas is desirable:

  • industrial decarbonization (embedded carbon, EPDs/PCRs, and procurement)
  • transportation electrification
  • hydrogen
  • energy technology manufacturing, supply chains, and critical materials
  • battery storage and grid management
energy deployment in the developing world
  • just transition
  • sustainable fuels

Benefits: Participants will receive a stipend to be determined by IA.  Stipends are typically based on the participant's academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location.  IA may authorize a supplemental stipend to offset the costs of health insurance.  Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance plans offered through ORISE.  Participants may receive an allowance for education and/or scientific activities as approved by IA.
