Tenure Track Faculty Positions in Center for IT & Society – Psychology

Center for IT and Society
All engineering disciplines have an impact on society and are impacted by the society. There is a need for focused research that critically examines the relationship and the impact of IT on the society and the role that society plays in shaping IT. This center will bring together researchers in the areas of economics, sociology, anthropology, media studies, Public policy, psychology, philosophy of science, etc. and with the IT faculty of the Institute in studying the interplay of IT and society.

The center will not only improve our general understanding of the impact of IT on the society and the society’s role in transforming IT, but also offers policymakers in India a clearer sense of the particular factors that affect the social dimensions and the dynamics of IT use in an Indian context. The center shall cover diverse areas like Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science/ Public Policy, Media and Communication Studies, etc. and will be responsible for developing and running an interdisciplinary program in IT and Society.

We are looking for tenure-track faculty in following diverse areas (not exhaustive) in the field of Psychology. Some of the focus areas include but not limited to:

  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Cognitive neuroscience
  • Cognitive psychology
  • Social psychology
  • Organizational psychology
  • Media psychology
  • Psychology of programming

Research, Innovation and Development
IIIT-Delhi emphasizes on research, innovation and development to create impact through published papers, reports, projects, and technology development. It strongly focuses on graduate education via the PhD program (various policies to attract PhD students have already yielded more than 125 scholars in eight years). It also extends significant support for initial career development via initiation research grant, support for international conference travel, professional society membership, and encouragement of continuing collaborations with foreign partner institutions (with options for short-term leave support). It has implemented systems of yearly appraisal / feedback and a tenure process to help faculty members aim high and create an institute whose reputation is benchmarked against international standards.

The faculty in the center, besides pursuing research, are also expected to offer courses. An interdisciplinary undergraduate program is also being planned in which new faculty members would be involved. The center has plans to offer specialized Master’s and PhD programs in the near future.

Compensation and Quality of Life:
The Institute provides a compensation (CTC) of over Rs. 1.50 lac/month for a starting Asst. Prof. and allows a faculty member to supplement it through research grants, summer sabbaticals in R&D labs/companies, consultancy, etc. The campus is situated in Okhla, Phase-III with a Metro station within ½ km, with modern, good quality and spacious accommodation for faculty.

We seek candidates having a PhD from a top Institution in India or abroad, perhaps some post doc experience and strong publication record in relevant areas.
Scholars with training in Psychology are preferred. Candidates who are conducting research relevant to the center’s theme and having the capability to independently drive a research program, and provide innovation and quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels are also welcome to apply.
