Position overview
Salary range: Salary: Commensurate with college teaching experience, in accordance with the current Unit-18 lecturer salary scale and its provisions. The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. A reasonable estimate for this position is $66,259-$109,516.

Percent time: Part time or full time
Summer Sessions appointments are handled on a by-agreement basis.
Academic year - A co-taught course typically results in a 17% appointment, single course typically results in a 33% appointment. Appointments may vary from 17% to 100%, depending on the needes of the department.

Anticipated start: Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025

Position description

The Psychology Department at University of California, Berkeley, is generating an applicant pool of qualified temporary instructors ("Lecturer" title series) to teach courses in the Department of Psychology. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the Psychology Department.

Teaching Responsibilities
We are seeking outstanding lecturers who can teach a range of possible courses that vary in size and subject area. Subject areas include the ones listed below (but are not limited to).

Core Courses:
Subject areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Graduate level statistics/data analysis
  • Social Personality Psychology
  • Upper Division Courses
  • Applied Early Developmental Psychology
  • Biological Psychology
  • Cognitive Neuroscience
  • Clinical Psychology
  • Industrial-Organizational Psychology

General Duties
In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include (but are not limited to) managing graders and/or graduate student instructors (teaching assistants), holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), and maintaining a course website. Those teaching large courses are expected to work with, meet with, and mentor graduate student instructors.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
PhD or equivalent international degree, or enrolled in PhD or equivalent international degree-granting program at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
PhD or international equivalent degree by the start date of service. Applicant must be eligible to legally work in the United States.

Preferred qualifications
A track record of distinguished teaching to a diverse undergraduate student body.
