About the opportunity
As a leading media and communications department with a global profile, quality and breadth of research, and strong reputation for social impact and engagement, the Department of Media and Communications (MECO) wishes to appoint an outstanding postdoctoral researcher in the area of digital media and ethnography to consolidate and extend its research capacity in this emerging area. Geographic expertise in the Pacific and/or Caribbean is welcome.

About you
MECO are seeking to appoint an outstanding early career researcher, who will build research, engagement, and education in the interdisciplinary fields of digital technology, media, and culture research within media and communications. The successful candidate will:

•     Undertake high quality research on social, cultural, political, or other relevant area of digital technologies, utilising ethnography and other approaches to studying digital media;
•     Undertake a specific research project in the area of everyday digital media use in the Caribbean, Pacific and/or across online and social media (as directed by supervisor);
•     Publish such work in leading outlets;
•     Develop a new major project on emergent digital media practices that engages with ethnographic approaches and methods;
•     Research, evaluate, and provide guidance to colleagues on ethnography, digital media methods and the social sciences;
•     Provide a resource to colleagues on ethnography and other digital media methods, concepts, and approaches;
•     Develop relationships with external stakeholders and partners for research activities and funding applications;
•     Liaise with key researchers and capabilities at University of Sydney, especially in SSSHARC.

Established in 2000, the Department of Media and Communications (MECO) is a leading centre for teaching, research and public engagement in the rapidly changing media and communications environment. MECO is based in the School of Literature, Art and Media (SLAM), one of the five schools of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS). Among other things, SLAM is a leading innovator in the application of new media and communications technologies to the humanities.
