Assistant Professor in Public Administration (Tenure Track)

University of San Francisco


Job Summary:

The School of Management at the University of San Francisco and the Department of Public and Nonprofit Management invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2018.

Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach graduate courses in programs offered by the department, specifically in the Master of Public Administration (MPA program) with corollary responsibilities for ongoing curriculum oversight and development as appropriate. Most courses are 3 or 4 units; the expected teaching load for this position is eighteen units per year (two-year load of 3-3-3-3 for 3-unit courses, or 2-2-2-3 for 4-unit courses, or mix therein). The successful candidate will also engage in service to the department, school and university, and maintain an active research program.
Possible areas of research and teaching include at least one of the following: management practice, local government, budgeting, public finance, public economics, public sector ethics, program evaluation, and/or experience with applying geographic information systems (GIS) and/or other large public data collections.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants should be able to demonstrate potential for successfully teaching masters level public administration courses in person and online. A successful candidate must meet the following minimum qualifications:
(1) an earned doctorate by the time of appointment, in public administration, public management or public policy, or closely related field (e.g., sociology, economics, political science, health management, organizational behavior);
(2) an established or emerging research program in public administration; and
(3) evidence of excellence in teaching public administration pre-service and in-service students. Scholarly and practice-oriented research is welcomed.
