Department Chair - Psychology
University of Massachusetts Lowell
Lowell, MA

The University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking a dynamic and experienced faculty leader and scholar to serve as the Chair of its Psychology Department at the rank of Full Professor with tenure.

The department is housed within the University's College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS). The College is the largest unit of the University, with 11 academic departments and 174 full-time faculty. FAHSS has experienced transformative growth over the past five years, including the hiring of over 50 new faculty members, a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and the addition of several new interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs.

Psychology enrolls over 1,100 students within its academic degree programs: a Bachelor of Arts (offered both on campus and online), Master's degrees in Community Social Psychology and Autism Studies, graduate-level certificates in two areas, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Psychology and Prevention Science. The department currently consists of 24 full-time faculty. Faculty specialize in a wide range of methodological and content areas and generate significant levels of scholarly output. Currently, faculty research is supported by several large grants from the National Institute of Justice, the National Science Foundation, NIH, and other major funding agencies, and faculty serve in a range of leadership positions at the national level including editorial boards, grant review committees, and governance in professional organizations. The Department maintains active working partnerships with a range of state and local agencies, and it is actively involved in the Lowell community.

UMass Lowell is a top-tier university, with a total enrollment approaching 20,000 students. It has advanced in national rankings more than almost any other university in the country over the past five years, and it offers an excellent salary and benefits package. The department has strong ties to the community of Lowell, a mid-sized city with a diverse population located 25 miles northwest of Boston.

For more information about the department, please visit the homepage: http://www.uml.edu//Psychology.

S/He will offer evidence of effective academic leadership (including strong interpersonal skills and managerial competence) and a strategic vision for: 1) promoting student success; 2) mentoring and supporting faculty; 3) enhancing the department's research enterprise; and 4) attracting top students and faculty.
