The University of Kentucky Department of Community & Leadership Development (UK-CLD) seeks candidates to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Community-Engaged Research in Community Development. UK-CLD is a multidisciplinary social science unit within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (CAFE), with a mission to strengthen the capacities of individuals, organizations and communities to act on their shared visions and challenges. The successful candidate will initially divide his/her efforts among research (55%), instruction (40%), and service (5%). Faculty assignments and division of efforts are subject to annual negotiation between the chair and faculty member.

The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an innovative and collaborative multidisciplinary/transdisciplinary research program, funded by competitive external grants, in community development. Research areas may include: challenges facing urban or rural contexts of the US and/or the Global South; issues concerning immigrants, and/or other underrepresented groups; and comparative analysis between US and Global South on these or related topics. The successful candidate is also expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals.

The successful candidate will also contribute to undergraduate and graduate instructional programs offered by the department by teaching up to three courses annually and advising undergraduate and graduate students. As a national leader in community-engaged learning, UK-CLD offers a variety of courses that incorporate service learning and community engagement. A list of courses is available at http://www.uky.edu/registrar/sites/www.uky.edu.registrar/files/CLD_13.pdf.

To apply, please include a cover letter, curriculum vita, teaching portfolio (upload under Specific Request 1), writing sample (e.g., dissertation chapter, first-authored journal article), and statement of research and teaching interests in community-engaged scholarship in community development (upload under Specific Request 2). The statement of interests must describe the applicant’s vision for research and explain how his/her research will contribute to UK-CLD’s mission as well as both UK’s and CAFE’s strategic goals in research, teaching, and outreach/extension.

Applicants should also submit names and e-mail addresses for three professional references when prompted in the application. References will be contacted with a request to electronically submit their letters. Application review processes will begin on January, 21, 2019, and continue until the position is filled. Salary is commensurate with qualifications.

Questions may be addressed to Dr. Rosalind Harris, Search Committee Chair, Dept. of Community and Leadership Development. 500 Garrigus Bldg., University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY 40546-0215; phone 859-257-7584; e-mail: rharris@uky.edu
