The University of South Carolina ( and the Department of Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. Advancement in the understanding of phenotypic features, diagnosis, underlying mechanisms and treatment of persons with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders is an emerging focus in the department, at the university and in the state ( Successful candidates should have a strong interest and experience in working with individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. They will be expected to make significant contributions to scholarship in their area of expertise, mentor graduate students, and teach courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.

The position is open to different areas of expertise, with the expectation that the applicant’s research focus will complement the substantive research strengths of the department, which include child and family, cognitive neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, health disparities, prevention science, and school mental health. The department is seeking applicants with experience and the potential for procuring grant funding and a desire to collaborate with diverse research teams within and outside the department (e.g., communication science, social work, biology, education). Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in clinical or school psychology or a related field, or demonstrate satisfactory progress toward completion of a doctoral degree by time of appointment. Licensure or eligibility for licensure is preferred. Appointment will be in one of the three current programs in the department including clinical-community, school and experimental psychology with a joint appointment across programs possible.

The faculty averages more than $7,200,000 annually in external awards while mentoring and teaching 1000+ undergraduate majors and 80+ Ph.D. students across three graduate programs. The department is proud of its significant outreach through the Psychology Services Center and programs engaging schools and communities.
