Rhode Island School of Design (or "RIZ-dee" for the acronym RISD) Office of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a range of mental health services to address the unique needs of art and design students with the goal of improving their emotional, interpersonal, and academic functioning. CAPS offers clinical services such as initial assessment, individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and case disposition along with training, outreach, and consultation to the RISD community.

CAPS is seeking a Senior Psychologist/Assistant Director, Training with a passion for and commitment to social justice to respond to the mental health needs of RISD students; assist the CAPS Director in providing leadership of the administrative, clinical, consultative, and outreach functions of CAPS; and provide leadership and supervision of the clinical training program. In consultation with the Director, the successful incumbent will provide clinical oversight and consultation on sensitive, challenging, and highly acute clinical cases and provide a full range of culturally informed clinical and training services to support the psychological health of a culturally diverse and creative student body at RISD; deliver consultation and training to faculty and staff in the RISD community; oversee the graduate training program; and serve as the Administrator-in-Charge when the Director is absent or unavailable. We are seeking an experienced, flexible, creative leader who will be calm under pressure in our well-utilized, fast paced counseling service.

It’s important that the Senior Psychologist/Assistant Director, Training has experience with cultural concerns, identity development, and acute mental health issues relevant to college students.
