With supportive oversight from the Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs (ADASA), the Director, Criminal Justice Programs provides visionary leadership and oversight associated with all aspects of the Criminal Justice faculty and programs:

  • Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Science - in person or online
  • Master of Science - online

The Director, Criminal Justice Programs is a full-time faculty member at associate professor or professor rank who reports directly to the Dean (primary) and receives supervision oversight from the ADASA (secondary or "dotted-line"). The Director, Criminal Justice Programs works in collaboration with the Dean, ADASA, Director of Recruitment, Director of Advising, Director of Admissions, and faculty, among others, to carry out the mission and goals of the Criminal Justice programs. The Director, Criminal Justice Programs may have direct reports, including Program Directors, Assistant Program Directors, etc. As a general rule, any staff person devoting more than 50% of their time to a specific program will report to the Director.

The role of Director, Criminal Justice Programs is an at-will administrative appointment, subject to removal of the administrative role (but not the faculty appointment) at any time. The Distribution of Effort (DOE) for the Director, Criminal Justice Programs varies and is set each year, in partnership with the Office of the Dean.

In general, Director appointments are three years, with options to renew in three-year cycles. The ADASA, in conjunction with the Office of the Dean, will lead an annual review of Director service. If the annual review concludes that the Director has not adroitly balanced the administrative commitment with other responsibilities, the Director, in consultation with the Offices of the ADASA and the Dean, will seek another candidate for the position.
 
Primary Responsibilities/Major Areas of Emphasis:
Leadership and Supervision
  • Conceptualize and communicate vision, priorities, and goals for the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Represent CoSW Criminal Justice interests at relevant, appropriate, international, national, and state venues.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to faculty and staff assigned to the Criminal Justice Programs.

Student Support and Experience
  • Stay abreast of contemporary challenges and opportunities associated with undergraduate and graduate students (to include stewardship); engage with Director of SEE to address challenges and exploit opportunities.
  • Actively participate in development activities focused on building scholarship support for Criminal Justice students; collaborate to actualize service development and deployment of these services, including student recruitment, retention, persistence, advising, and alumni engagement.

Strategic Planning and Program Development
  • Lead the deployment of new programmatic efforts associated with the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Develop strategic plans and frameworks consistent with programmatic goal attainment, and the broader CoSW and University plans.

Personnel and Resource Procurement and Oversight
  • Build, submit, and track annual budget requests to the Office of the Dean.
  • Recruit and support faulty and PTIs assigned to the Criminal Justice programs.
  • Participate in personnel reviews and assessments.

Quality Control and Reporting
  • Establish and lead quality assurance reviews and process/procedures, with strict adherence to accreditation and university requirements.
  • Provide performance and other reports associated with the Criminal Justice programs.

The Director will serve on the CoSW Academic Leadership Council and the CoSW Leadership Team As well, the Director serves as an ex officio member of the following college committees: Admissions, Advising, and Student Concerns Committee and the Curriculum Committee. Other assignments may be outlined in the DOE (e.g., research, teaching, and service as assigned by the Dean)

As a member of CoSW faculty, this is a 9-month, tenure eligible, open rank position in the Regular Title Series. The University's mission involves three primary functions: instruction, research, and service. Each year, faculty work with the Office of the Dean to delineate their distribution of effort (DOE). This DOE outlines how faculty will spend their time. Of course, the DOE can fluctuate on an array of factors (e.g., clinical funding, new course development, etc.). Excellence in teaching/instruction, advising, professional, University, and public service is expected.
