Section I: Scope

Manhattan College’s Communication Department seeks a tenure-track faculty member, at the assistant or associate professor level, to join and participate in the building of our dynamic and still relatively new undergraduate program. We are looking for someone who will guide our new concentration in Sports Media Production, with its Fall 2018 start date.

Section II: Responsibilities

Reports to: Chair
Responsibilities: The new concentration has been designed in support of the College’s initiative to produce Jasper Athletics programming to be streamed on ESPN3. Production of game events, utilizing our new Mobile Production Unit, will be carried out by students under the aegis of a Producer/Director we are also hiring for this purpose. The successful candidate will teach courses in the concentration including Introduction to Sports Media, Sports Remote Production, Sports Media Performance, Advanced Sports Media Production, and Field and Post-production for Sports. Sports Remote Production and Advanced Sports Media Production will be taught using the MPU as a lab classroom.

In addition, we seek a committed faculty member who will participate in the life of our department, the School of Liberal Arts in which we are housed, and the College. We seek someone committed to a balance of theory and practice, given our commitment to the liberal arts tradition and the College’s Lasallian tradition. Finally, we seek someone with a record of professional experience and/or a willingness to work and network with the industry in Manhattan to create internship and professional opportunities for our students.

Section III: Qualifications

Qualifications: Ph.D. in communication, media, or journalism, and some background in sports media production or television production required. ABD considered. Research program and commitment to teaching a must.
