Position Summary:
This position is at the intersection of social science and geographic information science, within a thematic context of marine management and shipping governance. Research will look at the effects of shipping in Inuit communities in the Canadian Eastern Arctic. The research will be twofold: 1) to explore Inuit concepts of marine space, and the ways in which cultural, social and economic value can be rendered through GIS; and 2) seek to analyze and visualize how shipping (noise, atmospheric emissions, routing) can affect Inuit marine use of marine and coastal spaces.

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have either a background in social science (e.g. cultural geography, marine management, anthropology, sociology), with a demonstrated knowledge/interest in GIS, or a background in GIS, with demonstrated knowledge/interest in social science (e.g. cultural geography, marine management, anthropology, sociology). Arctic research experience will be an asset.
