Position description

The Language and Cognitive Development Lab (PI: Mahesh Srinivasan) and the UC Dreams Lab (PI: Arianne Eason) at the UC Berkeley Department of Psychology are seeking a joint, Lab Manager. Candidate will report to PI: Mahesh Srinivasan. The Language and Cognitive Development Lab addresses how linguistic, social, and cognitive abilities arise and interact with one another in human development and across cultures. The UC Dreams Lab is focused on understanding the nature of prejudice, bias, and inequality development across numerous social groups. The Junior/Assistant Specialist would play a vital role in designing, conducting and analyzing new research studies, and would be involved in disseminating the research at conferences and through journal articles. So they would be involved in all aspects of the scholarly research process.

Responsibilities for the position will include many research-related activities, such as:

  • Recruiting and scheduling participants for single session or multi-session studies.
  • Interacting with research participants, including children and adults
  • Obtaining consent, explaining project goals and providing overview of procedures
  • Designing and creating experimental stimuli
  • Coding and analyzing data
  • Preparing research for publication
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising undergraduate assistants
  • Preparing applications for human subjects approval
  • Coordinating lab member scheduling and meetings
  • Helping to handle research expenses (i.e., helping coordinate payment for study stimuli, participants, and research dissemination)
  • Engaging with community partners 


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's degree or enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program (or equivalent international degree).

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent international degree).

Preferred qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent international degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Linguistics, or related disciplines
  • Two years of coursework in psychology or other relevant fields.
  • Working experience with human subjects, especially children, in an academic research environment.
  • General fluency with computer software
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Experience with statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS), survey platforms (e.g., Qualtrics), web design (Javascript/HTML), and video editing
  • Fluency in written and spoken Hindi
