POSITION SUMMARY:

The Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment (GCPE) in the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position in City and Regional Planning at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank to begin in August 2018.

Located on Pratt’s historic 25-acre campus in the culturally diverse Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn, GCPE is is an internationally-recognized, interdisciplinary and professional program offering M.S. degrees in four affiliated programs: City and Regional Planning (PAB-accredited); Historic Preservation; Sustainable Environmental Systems; and Urban Placemaking and Management. With 60 full and part-time faculty members, the GCPE program serves a student body of 175 graduate students.

The successful applicant will have a sub-specialization in one of the three aligned GCPE programs. The position offers candidates opportunities to work across disciplines both within the GCPE and with other departments in the School of Architecture (graduate architecture, graduate urban design), and throughout the Institute (Communications Design, Social Practice, Interior Design, etc.)

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Play an active role in the area of service learning as applied to the practice of planning, with a sub-specialization in: – Historic Preservation or – Sustainable Environmental Systems or – Urban Placemaking and Management.

- Teach core required courses including foundations and fundamentals, interdisciplinary studio courses, and planning methods plus electives in any of the four programs, depending on area of specialization.

- Actively participate in community-engaged scholarship, maintaining and advancing professional standing in the field.

- Develop curriculum.

- Advise and mentor students.

- Participate in program accreditation.

- Serve on departmental, School, and Institute committees.

- Perform all other related activities and carry out special projects as required.

- Represent the department within the Institute and to the profession, building relationships and partnerships with professional organizations, community-based organizations, and other practitioners in the field.

SALARY AND RANK are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We require a Ph.D. in Planning or a related field. (ABD will be considered if coursework is completed by time of appointment and there is a demonstrated ability to finish the dissertation within one year after time of appointment.) Candidates should possess a minimum of four semesters of teaching experience, and a minimum of one year of professional practice, broadly defined, which can include applied scholarship and research. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with a distinguished record of teaching, creative achievement in planning practice or research, and a strong commitment to innovation.
