Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Urban Planning (Design)

The School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland is looking to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor to teach and research in the fields of urban planning and design. The School is design-led and is seeking an outcomes-focused person with practical experience to contribute to our urban planning programmes.

The School of Architecture and Planning in the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries is New Zealand’s leading educator of architects, urban designers, and urban planners and is highly regarded for its advanced interdisciplinary study and research, innovative design focus and studio-based pedagogy. We have a diverse and internationally recognised academic staffing body and strong connections with professional communities. Our teaching and research are supported by outstanding library collections and databases, excellent digital and traditional workshops, and specialist studio facilities.

We are seeking applications from candidates who can provide innovative and high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including doctoral supervision.

We are seeking an individual who:

  • has evidence of a strong research and publication programme
  • has practical experience in delivering urban planning and urban design, ideally within the New Zealand context
  • holds a professionally recognised qualification in urban planning (or planning)
  • has a PhD in urban planning (or planning), and a research interest in urban design and built form issues.

Preference will be given to applicants who are experienced in teaching, including studio teaching in the area sought, with a strong record of publication and postgraduate supervision and practical experience in dealing with urban planning and design matters.
