The Counseling Program at UNT seeks a lecturer with a demonstrated record of strength in teaching and service to support the program’s professional and academic initiatives. The successful candidate will serve a nine-month, non-tenure-track appointment for the 2017-18 academic year. Salary will be commensurate with experience. This is a non-renewable position with part-time teaching in summer 2018 contingent on student demand and funding.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching four (4) courses in fall and spring semesters and providing service on committees and projects at the Program level and for professional associations.

The Program: The Counseling Program offers master’s and doctoral degrees in counseling and an undergraduate minor in counseling associate studies. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred accreditation on the following tracks in the Counseling Program at UNT: clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, and the PhD in counseling.

The UNT Counseling Program was the first in the nation to receive the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision’s Outstanding Program Award and earned that recognition again in 2000. The Counseling Program faculty also received the 2010 ACES "Publication in Counselor Education and Supervision" Award for their landmark book, The Professional Counselor: Portfolio, Competencies, Performance Guidelines and Assessment (4th edition) and won the same award for their 2004 3rd edition of that book. Beginning in 1998 when U.S. News and World Report began ranking counseling and counseling psychology programs housed in colleges of education, the UNT Counseling Program ranked among the top 20 programs nationally for nine years; for 2013, the program was ranked 13th in the nation and 1st in Texas.

The University of North Texas System is firmly committed to equal opportunity and does not permit – and takes actions to prevent – discrimination, harassment (including sexual violence), and retaliation on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, family status, genetic information, citizenship or veteran status in its application and admission processes, educational programs and activities, facilities, and employment practices. The University of North Texas System immediately investigates and takes remedial action when appropriate.

The University of North Texas System also takes actions to prevent retaliation against individuals who oppose a discriminatory practice, file a charge, or testify, assist or participate in an investigative proceeding or hearing. The candidate must hold a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program by start of employment. A record of effective teaching and clinical supervision is expected.
